Fort Detrick Alliance - Fort Detrick restricts drone use

Fort Detrick restricts drone use

Fort Detrick Garrison Commander is restricting drone use on post.

All areas of the post, except for the single-family housing community and the grassy area near it, are now no-fly zones for unmanned aircraft, including drones and remote-controlled aircraft.

Drones may not photograph or take video footage of “sensitive” locations on post, according to the policy, which was enacted in December.

Drone use is prohibited at Fort Detrick’s Forest Glen Annex in Silver Spring. That property falls within the drone no-fly zone for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, which covers a 30-mile radius from the airport.
