The Alliance Gives a Return on Investment to Sponsors

Highlights of 2009 Fort Detrick Alliance Accomplishments/Products
 
Knowledge-base Ombudsmanship
  • Presented fact based information Alliance positions and recommendations to our U.S. Representative and Senators, State Delegation, the Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, County Commissioners, City of Frederick Mayor & Aldermen, and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development.
  • Participated in, and delivered presentations to, the quarterly Maryland Military Installation Council.
  • Co-sponsored monthly meetings with the Fort Detrick Garrison Commander and staff, and participated in quarterly meetings with the Fort Detrick Community Liaison.
Promotion
  • Hosted eight business educational events; attended by more than 800 sponsors and guests who networked with Fort Detrick leadership & staff and received briefings on Fort Detrick activities, needs & requirements, partner organizations, and the Fort Detrick Alliance.
  • Promoted Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics, and similar, educational programs.
  • Sponsored, with Fort Detrick and the City of Frederick, the Twilight Tattoo in Baker Park. This premier event drew over 2000 regional residents to witness the spectacular patriotic event.
  • Co-hosted Frederick military family Community Covenant signing at Baker Park; part of the Patriotic Opening Ceremony that kicked off the City of Frederick’s Fourth of July festivities.
  • Developed a new Alliance website with improved navigation and ease-of-use. This site provides sponsors with the ability to register for events on-line and to accept credit cards to pay invoices.
  • Employed new media to reach out to sponsors to disseminate information in a timely fashion in new, easier to read, formats.
  • Represented the Fort Detrick Alliance & Sponsors at many Fort Detrick ribbon cuttings and events and other regional events.
Advocacy & Aid
  • Formulated and delivered Fort Detrick Alliance Federal Priorities to city, county, state and federal officials.
  • Met extensively with government officials in regards to issues concerning the Monocacy Blvd/Hwy 15 interchange, and the Fort Detrick Central Utility Plant/PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) initiative. 
  • Communicated extensively with elected officials and congressional staff on the USAMRIID Environmental Impact Study (EIS) study. Provided resources and information to decision makers. Participated in discussions and made recommendations regarding the EIS report and NRC study.
  • Tracked and offered input concerning local, state, and federal legislative activities.
Economic Development
  • Facilitated sponsor interactions with the Fort Detrick Contracting Office, the Small and Minority Busines Office, the Fort Detrick Business Development Office, and Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs.
  • Facilitated over 30 tours on Fort Detrick to help sponsors become better acquainted with the installation.
  • Promoted initiation and execution of a much needed a Fort Detrick Economic Impact Study.
