Fort Detrick Alliance to Co-Host Frederick Military Family Community Covenant Signing The Fort Detrick Alliance joined with the City of Frederick and Fort Detrick to co-host the signing of the Frederick Military Family Community Covenant at the Baker Park Bandshell on August 22nd. The Military Community Covenant that will be signed on August 22nd is not just a symbolic act; it is a real indication of the commitment of support that the military and Frederick make to Fort Detrick and its families. The entire Frederick community benefits from this support. The Covenant, called the Army Community Covenant by the Department of Defense, “is a formal commitment of support by states and local communities to Soldiers and their Families - active, Guard and Reserve. The Army Community Covenant is designed to develop and foster effective state and community partnerships with the Army working to improve Soldier and Family quality of life, while at their current duty stations and as they transfer from state to state”, according to a DoD Web site. In the Frederick area the term Military Community Covenant is used because Fort Detrick is not just an Army post but is a facility that is home to several military services. Frederick City and County have a particularly effective working relationship with Fort Detrick, thanks in large part to the work done by the Fort Detrick Alliance to facilitate communication among these groups and to provide information about Fort Detrick and its activities. |
