Michael J. Langford, DVM, Ph.D. Vice President
Dr. Langford joined the Board of Directors of the Fort Detrick Alliance in 2008.
He is the Research Operations Director at the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center (NBACC). Prior to accepting this position in 2008, he was President of Emergent Product Development, LLC, in Gaithersburg, MD. His previous position was as Chief Scientific Officer for DynPort Vaccine Company. Dr. Langford, who has lived in the Frederick area since 1990, retired with the rank of Colonel after serving 22 years on active duty in the Army's Veterinary Corps. His Army duty included two assignments at Fort Detrick: with USAMRIID from 1990 to 1994 and with USAMMDA from 1994 to 1996. In 1977 Dr. Langford received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University; he received a Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii in 1990, and in 1996 he graduated from the US Army War College (1996). Dr. Langford is the recipient of numerous military awards and decorations, and he is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. He belongs to the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Microbiology, the United States Animal Heath Association, and the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians.
